Helping children facing trauma, MU launch ‘Books for Schools’

Schools where children are facing traumatic family events, such as divorce or bereavement, could be helped by a Mothers’ Union  project launched this month in the Ripon Episcopal Area.

The “Books for Schools Project” is offering teachers a set of four books, purchased by Mothers' Union branches, which are  aimed at Primary schools and can be used with pupils  affected by divorce, bereavement, the death of a pet and terminal illness in the family.

The first set of books was presented to staff at Kirby Hill C of E Primary school near Ripon by members of the local Mothers’ Union Branch.

So far twenty-nine schools have been included in the scheme which is hoped to cascade across the diocese.

The teachers said, “These topics touch all families from time to time and the books will be invaluable as a resource in our school.”
