The stunning church of Christ the Consoler in the grounds of Newby Hall was the location for a service praying and giving thanks for those engaged in the hospitality and tourism sectors of the local community.
The service which was described as 'lively' and 'inspiring' was entirely lay led by members of Kirby on the Moor and Cundall churches. A representative from 'Visit Harrogate' and a local B&B provider spoke; there was a Bible based address about God's hospitality; moving prayers on the theme were offered and members of The benefice Choir sang an anthem.
The Church of Christ the Consoler is a Victorian Gothic Revival church built in the Early English style by William Burges who was commissioned by George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon, to build it as a tribute to the Marquess' brother-in-law, Frederick Vyner. The church is a Grade I listed building and is under the car of Churches Conservation Trust on 14 December 1991
