Thanks to funding from the Church Urban Fund a Huddersfield church is now seeking to appoint a part-time Christian Against Poverty (CAP) project manager to help lift local people out of poverty and dependency.
St David’s Holmbridge, near Holmfirth, south of Huddersfield is a growing Anglican church in the Holme Valley. It recently received financial support for a CAP Fresh Start group and has advertised for a project manager who can run weekly sessions for those needing help with debt or dependency.

The Revd Nick Heaton, Vicar of St. David’s, Holmbridge, said the church had been praying for some time about how their parish hall and facilities could be better used to serve the community and the post has come about as a result.
“As a church, St. David’s has been prayerfully asking ‘How can we be hopeful signs of the Kingdom, of the new world to come, in the world today?’ How can we be this on our frontlines and how can we be this together as a community?
“Being blessed with a large parish hall with great facilities we’ve been asking – how can this building be used to be good news to the community around us? We struggled to find the right way to begin to realise this vision until we heard about the work of Christians Against Poverty.
“Through their excellent range of programmes which seek to deal with the causes of poverty we felt very much led to run a ‘Fresh Start’ project to help people deal with a whole range of addictive behaviours, to find a new freedom and a ‘fresh start’.”
Nick adds, “We believe this is just the beginning of something truly exciting for the church and community here.”
