It's a homecoming – for the patron saint of a Wakefield church when a stained glass depiction of St James the Great – a fisherman and pilgrim - will be installed in St James’s church – thanks to an anonymous benefactor.
Glaziers from York will be in church in Nostell Lane, Ryhill this week to first remove two plain windows before installing two new full length stained glass ones depicting St James and Our Lady of Walsingham - watched over by the window designer Natalie Liege who will travel from Shrewsbury to oversee the installation.
The project in memory of family members was first started over four years ago by the previous vicar, Fr Peter Bostock and the current priest in charge, the Revd Malcolm Reed, is pleased and excited to see this precious project finally come to fruition.
Said Malcolm: “It’s a homecoming of sorts. It’s been a long time coming, but our patron is at last coming home and we are all really excited about it.”
There will be a dedication service for the two new windows on Sunday 19 April by the Bishop of Wakefield, the Rt Revd Tony Robinson when the designer and the donor are both hoping to be present.
