A Leeds church is putting itself at the heart of its area with the installation of a new defibrillator.
St Edmund’s Church in Roundhay has had it put in place as part of a Leeds Council scheme to provide 50 community public access defibrillators, or CPADs, across Leeds.
The defibrillator is installed on the side of St Edmund’s’ church hall in a prominent place so that it is obvious where it is.
One of the church team is the official guardian, and checks it once a week to make sure it is working.
The Revd Chris Balding, Curate at St Edmund’s (pictured), said, “We’d been hoping to get a CPAD installed for a while but it was difficult to find funding, as they are quite expensive, so we jumped at the chance when Mike from the council said that our campus was the perfect place for one in the Roundhay ward.
“It couldn’t have happened at a better time either as the faculty rules changed making it a much easier process to get permission for the defibrillator to be installed!”
