St James, Woodside collects for Calais, and St Luke’s Holbeck for Iraq
St James, Woodside is now a collection point for items to be transported to Calais. Their Facebook page is here. You can deliver on Sunday mornings to the church, or on weekday mornings (before 11.30am) to the parish centre – or contact the church to negotiate other times.
Surplus goods will go to collections for refugees in other camps, eg Leeds2Iraq which relaunches on 3 October (see below).
Items that are needed are:
Tents, sleeping bags, roll mats
Clothes (that dry easily): socks, jackets, shirts, underwear.
Cleaning and anti-bacterial products, toiletries (soap, towels, kitchen paper, toilet paper).
Plastic pots (usable for small laundry), basic first aid kits, wipes, trash bags/bins (NO more sanitary towels or nappies).
Containers/jerrycans for food and water, non-perishable food, flour, oil, water (plus bottles with taps), pans, pots (sponges, dish soap).
Tools, wood, canvas sheets, tape, mobile phones (and the chargers), sim cards
Plus toys, children’s clothes and baby things.
The Leeds2Iraq clothing appeal to relaunch on 3 October
St Luke’s Holbeck's first appeal in January led to over 7.5 tonnes of aid being gathered, packed and sent to displaced Iraqis who’d been forced to leave their homes wearing only their summer clothes.
From 3 October, they’re appealing again for good quality, warm winter clothes and shoes to send to those families who have been unable to leave the region and are camped out in terrible conditions. They’re also gathering 'care packs' to send to some of the 116,000 displaced pregnant women in Northern Iraq/Kurdistan.
