A community café run from one of our churches has been named a #locallegend, thanks to an award from the Leeds Civic Trust.
Rainbow Junktion, the pay-as-you-feel intercepted food café run from All Hallows Church in Leeds, has been recognised because of their extensive work supporting the local area during the coronavirus crisis.
Revd Heston Groenewald, Vicar at All Hallows, said: “This award has been a lovely boost to our dedicated amazing cafe team.
“It is just what we needed to renew enthusiasm, as lockdown enters its twelfth week and more and more people are needing a blast of cheer and hope alongside the groceries and daily essentials.”
During the pandemic Rainbow Junktion have been supplying the local area, offering takeaway food as well as deliveries, while acting as a local food hub delivering food parcels and running an ‘essentials’ shop for other supplies.
The café has given out on average some 170 council food parcels a week, while also sending out an average of 250 'plates' of food per day, double what they were serving as a cafe previously.
The café is also specifically supporting BAME communities with culturally appropriate food parcels, supporting some 50 people in the last week alone.
