Leeds young people have organised their own Christmas Crafts event – at the end of which they took home armfuls of homemade gifts and decorations
It’s part of CREATE – a programme in which young people can learn new creative arts skills through interactive workshops.
Children and Young People's Development Worker, Anne Carter, says, “Create is really church for young people by young people. The team of 14-20 year olds decided on the crafts they wanted, ordered the materials and invited a tutor to teach them how to do a particularly professional craft - découpage!
“It was a busy and creative afternoon (we were also joined by some 10-14 year olds) and we had a Christmas tea and a worship time too. We thought about what it meant for Jesus to be born into a war-torn part of the world where people felt lost and desperate; so much like today. They wrote or drew a prayer - something they wanted to say to Jesus – and placed them in a manger while listening to a song: ‘He made a Way in a Manger’.”
If you haven’t been to a Create afternoon before, you’re very welcome to the next one on 6 February - details on the website.
