Chrism Eucharist for the Diocese: Maundy Thursday 11am Wakefield Cathedral
"This is the first time we will meet as one body to renew our vows and commitments. Let's show our commitment to God and each other as we worship and meet in this unique way." Bishop Nick Baines.
It is the first time everyone – clergy and lay -will have the opportunity to renew their vows and commitment to God together in one place since the new diocese was formed last Easter.
Bishop Nick will lead clergy in the renewal of their ordination vows and invites lay people to re-affirm their commitment to lay ministry and Christian discipleship.
The Chrism Eucharist for the Diocese takes place at 11.00am on Maundy Thursday, 2 April and this year will be hosted by Wakefield Cathedral.
Bishop Nick will preside and the Area Bishops will be present and it will be the one time in the year when the clergy have the opportunity to come together to worship with their bishop and renew their commitment to ministry and service.
During the service, the oils for Baptism, Confirmation (Chrism) and Anointing of the Sick will be blessed by the Bishop. If you wish to obtain the oils at the end of the service you will need to bring suitable containers with you.
The Bishop would like to give you the option to robe (alb and white stole) or not to robe for the service, though please make it a priority to come whatever you wear!
If you are robing, please be robed and ready to be seated in the cathedral by 10.45am. You will be able to robe in the Treacy Hall, the Education and Eastwood Rooms and in the Crypt.
After the service, the cathedral will offer some lunch. Please note numbers are limited and to help organisation, catering and logistics, please email chrism@wakefield-cathedral.org.uk to let the cathedral know that you're coming and whether you're robing, whether you're bringing anybody with you, and whether you wish to stay for lunch (incl. dietary requirements/vegetarian).
