Light up a Life this Christmas in churches across the Wakefield and Five Towns

Hospice picturesThe hospices in Wakefield and Pontefract are organising Light up a Life services this Christmas across Wakefield and the Five Town areas.
Wakefield Hospice is inviting people to remember loved ones this Christmas with services at Wakefield Cathedral and Trinity Church, Ossett.

And the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract, is celebrating ‘Light up a Life’ services at churches in the 5 Towns area from Monday December 11 to Thursday December 14 including St Luke’s Sharlston, St Giles’s Pontefract, St Mary’s Badsworth, Holy Cross, Airedale and the Prince of Wales Hospice Gardens in Pontefract. (see dates below)

At each event, a Tree of Lights will be illuminated with hundreds of white lights, each shining for someone special. The hospice is asking people to make a donation of their choice to dedicate one of the lights.

Anyone can sponsor a light and attend the service, whether or not they have a connection with the hospice. All donations will help the hospice provide high quality specialist care to local families over Christmas and throughout the year.

Each name being remembered in the Wakefield and Ossett service will be added to a book of Christmas Blessings which will be on display at Wakefield Cathedral until Twelfth Night.

The services at Wakefield Cathedral take place on Sunday 10 December 2017 at 2pm and 5pm. The service at Trinity Church in Ossett takes place on Thursday 14 December at 6.30pm. The services are free to attend but, due to limited space, tickets are issued on a 'first come, first served' basis.

To request tickets and dedicate a light, visit: www.wakefieldhospice.org/light or call the Wakefield Hospice on 01924 331401.

The Chaplain at the Prince of Wales Hospice, Fr Stephen Hotchen said:

“Once again, ‘Light up a Life’ is a service at which we help people to celebrate the life of loved ones who have died. We light candles to remember people who have been close to us and share with others as they remember.

“There is a Christmas theme running through these services and relatives who have had someone close die in the Hospice have an opportunity to see their names in our Books of Remembrance. Support is offered to those who need it and refreshments are always available,’ he added.
