A thousand stars hung from the ceiling of a church in Barnoldswick, as part of the national Church of England Christmas campaign, with the helping hand of the local fire brigade.
The thousand paper stars that hung in the skies of Holy Trinity, Barnoldswick were installed last December by volunteers to celebrate #FollowtheStar, which encouraged people across the country to attend their local church at Christmas.
Inspiration for the project came from congregation member Louise Firth who led the process from start to finish. Before advent began, volunteers from the church came together to make the paper stars by hand but soon realised that they had no means by which to hang the stars from the high cieling in the main part of the church. "Starmakers, apparently, have their limitations when it comes to the mechanics of the process," said Colin Sagar, PCC treasurer at Holy Trinity Barnoldswick.
However, the Revd Sheena McMain had a lightbulb moment and approached the local fire brigade who agreed to help. The strings of stars were then attached to a large net and strung across the church.
Following Christmas, the display has now been taken down the strips of stars are being sold off, a pound per strip, with all funds raised going towards the church.
