York's Jorvik Viking Centre brought their 'Dig on Tour’ to Adel church last week for a medieval afternoon.
Val Crompton from Adel Church says, “It was part of the Yorkshire Medieval Festival, and our church is particularly suitable because it's brimming with medieval history!
"Children had a go at being archaeologists (with the help of the JORVIK team) by digging through a selection of replica pits in search of artefacts. There was also a display of medieval stonework and manuscripts,and many visitors followed a history trail around the church and our six-acre churchyard”
Adel Church dates back to 1150 and is one of the oldest churches in West Yorkshire still in use as a centre of Christian worship. Of particular 
historical interest are its 37 chancel arch beakheads, corbels and south doorway.
Vicar of Adel, the Revd Ian White, said, "We attracted a really good cross-section of people and age ranges - the children engaged with the 'hunts' and 'excavations' with great enthusiasm, and the mums and dads were very grateful for another entertaining afternoon during the long holiday!
