A new book capturing memories and stories of life in Menston and Wharedale during the First World War will be launched at St John the Divine church at the end of the month.
'ECHOES OF WAR: Menston Reflects on the Great War' is a record of Menston village’s four-year commemorations of the recent Centenary of the terrible conflict.
Full of poignant stories remembering the service of family members, life in Wharfedale during 1914-18 and tributes to the men who left Menston never to return, the book brings history to life and is a remarkable community tribute.
The Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Ed Anderson and Cllr Doreen Lee, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, will be at the launch at 7.30pm in Menston Parish Church on Friday, June 28.
An exhibition of embroideries on the theme of ‘Peace and Reconciliation’ will be on display throughout the weekend.
The church will be open on Saturday 29 June 10.30am-4.30pm and Sunday 30 June 12.30pm to 4.30pm when copies of the book will also be on sale, priced £15.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will be split between Menston Parish Church and the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation.
