It’s that time of year again as the church community of St Philips, Birchencliffe celebrate God’s gift of music, drama and laughter with their annual panto service and this year’s pantomime, Cinderella.
All three ministry team are taking part this year – with vicar, the Revd Mary Railton Crowder, cast as Cinderella’s evil stepmother, and curate, the Revd Sarah Farrimond and reader, Graham Crowder, both in the senior chorus.
And last week the cast braved the rain to sing and entertain shoppers in nearby Lindley where they found a dry and warm welcome and hot drink at St Stephen’s.
Cinderella, written by St Philip's PCC member Steph Potts, who plays the Prince, opens on Tuesday night (16th) for a 5 night run.
The opening night performance is dedicated to former stage manager, Rob Carter, who lost his life last year. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the charity, Rethink.
The opening night, which is almost sold out, will be interpreted for the Deaf, by an acclaimed champion of inclusive theatre, Andy Higgins.
The Revd Mary Railton-Crowder, vicar of St Cuthbert’s, Birkby and St Philip the Apostle, Birchencliffe, said: “This is a lovely opportunity for the church family to celebrate the way pantomime brings our community together and enables us to offer a ministry of welcome, hospitality and laughter.
