There are many ways to celebrate an upcoming 75th birthday; some may choose a party, a day out, or nice relaxing meal. Fr John, a monk from The Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield, has decided to do something a little different, he plans to celebrate his 75th birthday by running 10k for charity!
Fr John writes, “As I will be celebrating my 75th birthday in January I thought that this would be a good opportunity to give thanks for the life that God has given to me, for the Gospel, for family and friends, for the Community and the College of the Resurrection – Deo Gratias! Especially I want to say thanks that I am still running and so I am going to run 10k on the 26th January 2019.
“Proceeds from the Sponsored Run will go to Tariro, a charity helping deprived and orphaned teenagers in Zimbabwe established by Fr Nicolas, also from the Community of the Resurrection. The object of the charity is to provide safe homes, education, employment, and medical and psychological care for young people who have been orphaned, abused or abandoned.”
