Missing vicar sentenced

Simon Reynolds who was found guilty of theft at Sheffield Crown Court last Thursday relating to his time in post as vicar of Darton, Barnsley from 2007 to 2013, has now been sentenced to two years and eight months.

Simon, who was the rector of St Andrew's Farnham in the Diocese of Guildford at the time of his arrest,  absconded from court last Thursday where he was convicted of four counts of theft in his absence. He handed himself into a police station on Monday.

In a statement the Diocese said: We are pleased that the judicial process has now been concluded and that the parishes involved can move on. We will continue to hold all those involved in our prayers. "

Reynolds was found guilty of four counts of theft. The first three related to fees he should have sent to the Wakefield Diocesan Board of Finance, for marriages, funeral and churchyard monuments respectively. The fourth related to fees for monuments that should have gone to the parochial church council.
