Churches in our link diocese of Tarime in Tanzania will be able to help people wash their hands before services, thanks in part to a grant from the Diocese of Leeds. 
The grant has allowed the Diocese of Tarime to purchase gloves and liquid disinfectants for all the 44 churches and worship centres in the diocese, alongside special buckets with taps so water can be made available for everyone.
The Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield and currently responsible for our link with Tanzania, said: “The link with the Mara Region in Tanzania has been going for well over thirty years.
“We are very concerned that the coronavirus has recently reached the region and we have sent some funds to pay for new buckets with taps that can be used at their churches for people to wash their hands before worship.
“They are also putting on extra services so that people can keep appropriate social distance from each other.
“I have sent a message of our encouragement and assurance of our prayers for our brothers and sisters which was read out in churches on May 3.”
The Diocese of Tarime is looking at getting specially made bucket holders for each church, to make the process of washing hands easier for members of the churches.
They are also ensuring health education is available, so people can learn more about the serious impact of Covid-19.
