Children’s hospital packs, supporting teenage mums and memory aids for dementia patients are just some of the projects supported by the Wakefield Area Mothers’ Union.
It’s a far cry from tea and cake…though MU members can do that too…and on Friday members of the Mothers Union across the Wakefield Episcopal Area and clergy will come together to learn more about the impact the Mothers’ Union is having on some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
The event – held at St Catherine’s Church Centre on Doncaster Road – will also hear from Jean Thurman, Diocesan President on how the MU is shaping up now we are one diocese.
There will be four external speakers from four projects supported by the local Wakefield MU: A project creating suitable tool aprons to promote positive memories for dementia patients; Caring for You which provides emergency overnight toilet bags for children and teenagers who find themselves in Pinderfields Hospital, and Riverside Care and Support will talk about the impact MU members are having on Barnsley Women’s Refuge and the Teenage Parent accommodation facilities in Wakefield.
Eileen Warburton, Wakefield Episcopal Area President, said: “It’s a chance to meet our Diocesan president and celebrate 140 years of Mothers Union here in Wakefield by hearing more about our project work and first hand stories of the benefit and difference they are making on some of the most vulnerable."
All are welcome – clergy, lay, MU members and non members.
10am - 2.30pm Friday Oct 21 – St Catherine’s Church Centre, Doncaster Road, Wakefield.
