Over 300 members of the Mothers’ Union from across the new diocese gathered in Wakefield Cathedral last week for their first Advent service.
The service was led by Canon Tony Macpherson and the Dean, the Very Revd Jonathan Greener, welcomed the Bishop of Huddersfield on his first official visit to the Cathedral.
The Bishop, the Rt. Revd Jonathan Gibbs was accompanied by his wife Toni, and he gave the blessing in the service.
Lynne Tembey, the Worldwide President of Mothers’ Union, gave the address, speaking about the four million members of Mothers’ Union in 83 countries around the world.
The three Joint Diocesan Presidents, Jean Bailey, Ros Dobbin and Cynthia Osborne read the lessons along with two Faith and Policy Co-ordinators, Elaine Swinhoe and Janet Richardson.
This service was the last of three joint services which have taken place during 2014. The previous two were in Bradford Cathedral and Leeds Minster. Next year will see many more joint events.
