The Mothers’ Union in Leeds Diocese is joining a world-wide 16 day campaign against gender- based violence.
Running from 25 November to 10 December, the campaign highlights that at least one in three women globally will experience some form of gender- based violence in their lifetime. Mothers' Union members and this campaign are putting out a strong message that
“IT IS NOT OK!”
Members throughout the world are involved in a range of activities, calling for an end to all forms of violence against women and girls.
They are also inviting all of us - people around the world of any gender - to take part in a 'Global Moment' is by gathering locally at 12noon on 25 November to light a candle to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence...
- to stand in solidarity against gender-based violence
- to join with others in lighting a candle
- to pray for those caught up in a cycle of violence
The following prayer has been written for that moment….
Loving Lord, we light this candle to remember all who are affected by gender-based violence, and as a symbol of hope as we pray for a world which is free from all forms of violence and abuse. Amen
On 25 November, after the Global Moment, staff from Mothers' Union headquarters in London will march to Downing Street to present their petition calling on the Government to drop charges to use the child maintenance service for those affected by domestic abuse.
Locally Prayer Vigils led by Mothers’ Union will be held at Wakefield Cathedral on Friday 2 December at 12 noon and at St Peter’s Church, Huddersfield on Wednesday 7 December at 10.30am. All are welcome.
