A muscle-crunching 150 mile cycle ride along the Leeds-Liverpool canal has been completed by two fundraisers, to mark the 150th anniversary of St Thomas’s Church Sutton in Craven.
The ride, completed by the Revd Brian Greenfield, curate at St Thomas’s Church, and vicar’s husband, Simon Collings raised money for two causes important to the community: POPI (Pass on Pre-Loved Items) and St Thomas’s Church, Sutton.
Brian and Simon’s ride was supported by members of the church, local schools and the wider local community. A whopping £1800 was raised: £900 to each cause, and a cheque was presented to Samantha Craven, Chair of POPI.
The Revd Helen Collings, vicar at St Thomas’s, said, “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people, and want to thank everyone who supported Brian and Simon."
"This money will be used to support activities for the benefit of the community, such as our recently formed ‘Games & Grub’ club.”
Samantha Craven, Chair of POPI, said, "We were so touched when Simon and Brian said they’d like to help POPI with a sponsored bike ride."
"They raised a phenomenal amount which will make a huge difference to the families we support.
"The money will be used to buy essential items such as cot mattresses, safety gates and nappies for vulnerable families.
"We are so very grateful that POPI was chosen and recognised as such a worthy cause."
