New cookbook to help people eat well for less

A new cookbook from a charity based in one of our churches is looking to help people eat healthy for less during the pandemic.
‘Cook with Shine’, from Shine, a local charity based at St Stephen’s West Bowling, has been written by Shine Trustee Linda Baines, and gathers together recipes she has created to make the best use of food boxes given out by the charity.
The recipes are designed to appeal to adults and children alike, and offer a way for people to eat well without breaking the bank.
The food boxes prepared by Shine are made up of food given by businesses and supermarkets via Storehouse, with the charity making sure it gets to the families that need it.
One family helped by the recipes said: “Shine has changed meal times dramatically for me, and my three children.
“Before I was only feeding my children bits and bobs I could find, now I make them and me proper meals from scratch.”
The book also looks to celebrate the community of Shine, as it includes writing from their Well Words group, photos from the garden around St Stephen’s church and images from Creative Threads, the art and craft group.
