New head of chaplaincy for Leeds Teaching Hospitals

The new head of chaplaincy for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has arrived to start work at his father's birthplace.

Ben Rhodes has come north from his previous role as head of chaplaincy at King's College Hospital, London and will lead spirtual care across St James', Leeds General Infirmary, Chapel Allerton, Wharfedale and Seacroft hospital.

"My Dad was actually born in St James' 75 years ago and I still have lots of family in the city," said Ben, pictured at Church House with colleagues after being licensed in the role by Bishop Paul Slater.

"The Trust promotes the The Leeds Way, which has five key values regarding fair, patient-centred care that are in tune with the Gospel - one of the reasons it was definitely a place I wanted to come and work.

"Patients and people are at the heart of the hospitals and evey patient matters.

"And through collaboration, we are trying to make Leeds a good place for wellbeing with a chaplaincy that supports people, whatever their faith.

"I'm also really looking forward to getting to know the whole diocese," said Ben, who lives near Boston Spa.
