Canon Maggie Mclean of Christ the King, Battyeford is gearing up for an adventurous new role at York Minster.
In November, Canon Maggie, who has also served as chaplain at Huddersfield University, will take up the newly-created role of Canon Missioner at York Minster.
Her new job has an ambassadorial brief that will see her develop partnerships with Christian communities in York, the wider local diocese, the whole of the northern province of the Church of England and even with the Minster’s link dioceses in South Africa.
“Although I am obviously excited by the opportunity of working at the Minster, it is with sadness that I will be leaving the Diocese of Leeds,” Canon Maggie said.
“I moved into the Diocese when I joined the Chaplaincy Team at Huddersfield University in 1998, so it's been a while!” Said Canon Maggie, who was one of the first women to be ordained in the Church of England.
“Since then I have worked in parishes Cleckheaton and Mirfield.
“I was made a Canon of Wakefield Cathedral in 2011 and have always tried to be involved in the life of the Diocese beyond the parish.
“I will particularly miss the work that I have done with the School of Ministry, as working with those exploring their ministry is always challenging and rewarding.
“My involvement with our links in Tanzania is also an area I will be very sorry to see end, but nothing in ministry is lost and all the experiences gained throughout my time in Leeds Diocese will have stood me in good stead for this next stage of my life and ministry.”
