New online workshops on how to further engage with young people

Hot on the success of its recent ‘Helping young families reconnect with church’ online event, the diocesan Children, Young People and Families Team have announced three follow-up sessions to support parishes in this vital area of mission:

Engaging with Christenings Families on Thursday, June 17, is a workshop to help think about some of the opportunities around baptism; including information about the ‘Big Picnic’ idea for this year’s Godparents Sunday in July.

Engaging with Families through Seasonal Events, on Thursday, July 1, will consider some of the ways we might use the Church Year to plan seasonal events to engage with families in our communities

Making the Most of Toddler Ministry, on Thursday, July 15, will look at the very real missional opportunities intentional work with Toddler groups can give.

“The session in April was really encouraging,” said Liz Morton, Children, Young People and Families Team leader.

“These three new events will expand on the themes and conversations from that evening.”

In addition, the team has a number of other opportunities to support parishes thinking about reconnecting with children and young people, including:

Engaging with Schools on Wednesday, May 26 is a workshop co-facilitated by the Team with Education Team colleagues, to explore ways of engaging with local schools.

Young people’s passionate engagement with environmental issues is the subject of Burning Down the House: How the church could lose young people over climate inaction, on Thursday, June 10.

This will be an exciting opportunity to learn more about the recent report of the same name and will be led by Tear Fund and a representative from Young Christian Climate Network. Full details can be found here.

The CYPF Team is also working to provide some training supporting parishes to engage with young people in a multi faith area and dates will be available soon.
