Reader ministry in the Wakefield Episcopal Area has been boosted with five new Readers, the largest number to be licensed together in the area since the new diocese came into being.
The five men and women, serving in churches across the Episcopal Area were licensed by the Bishop of Wakefield, Bishop Tony Robinson at a service last week in Wakefield Cathedral.
Pictured with Bishop Tony are (from left to right) Anne Dawtry (Warden of Readers) Andy Vanstan and Jo Reid (All Saints Normanton), Kay Short (St John’s Wakefield), Simon Beresford (Wakefield Cathedral), Daniel Park (St Paul’s Alverthorpe) and Freda Jackson (Area Assistant Warden).
Archdeacon Anne commented, "These five men and women form the largest group of Readers to be licensed together in the Wakefield area since the new Diocese came into being. After three years study they will now begin a ministry of preaching and teaching in their parishes. They join a cohort of other Readers who serve an important ministry as lay theologians across the Diocese."
Several other Readers are also being licensed elsewhere in the diocese this Autumn.
