New Ripon Gargoyle to decorate Cathedral Beer Festival glasses

GargoyleOne of three new gargoyles to have been designed, created and installed on the outside of Ripon Cathedral will also decorate beer glasses at this year’s  Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival on Bank Holiday Monday May 1st.

The designs for the new gargoyles were announced last year from a number of entries by local stonemasons.  The winning gargoyle was created by York stonemason Martin Coward.

The Beer Festival takes place on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, from 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in the Dean’s Garden of Ripon Cathedral.

As well as a wide selection of local beers, visitors to the annual event can enjoy live music with this year’s bands including Two Well Worn, King Courgette,  the Elders and  Leon Marshall. Entertainment for children includes a bouncy castle, face painting and crafts.

Margaret Hammond of Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign said the event has grown in popularity and receives generous support from local businesses. “The Festival has been kindly sponsored by CNG a commercial gas supplier based in Harrogate that is committed to supporting the local community and is to be  the Cathedral’s Principal Business Partner for 2017.   We are also grateful for the support of our new Principal Business Partners Stratstone BMW and Mini who will be showcasing their latest models at the Beer Festival.”

With other local businesses also supporting the event, the aim will be to raise funds towards Ripon Cathedral Renewed, the Dean’s development plans for securing the future of the Cathedral.

Among the local breweries supporting this year’s festival are Hambleton Ales, Rudgate Brewery , Roosters, Yorkshire Heart , Timothy Taylor’s, Theakstons,  Black Sheep, Five Towns Brewery, York Brewery, Classic Blonde from Clark’s and Rick Jones, from the Water Rat in Ripon.

Entrance to the event will be £4.00 for adults – free for children.
