The words of the Bard are coming to one of our churches in Skipton this week, as they play host to a new production involving some of Shakespeare’s greatest hits.
Students from Bradford College’s Performing Arts Degree course a putting on their open-air performance in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in Skipton.
The brand-new show follows the exploits of a travelling theatre company, “The Ewe-niversal Players”, who arrive in Skipton to put on some of Shakespeare’s most well-know plays, but the backstage tensions between the cast members spill over into the performance, and it is touch and go whether all’s well that ends well.
The Revd James Theodosius, Vicar at Holy Trinity, said: “It’s wonderful for Holy Trinity to be able to offer the outside space and beautiful backdrop for some live Shakespeare.
“More importantly, to encourage the arts to flourish in this emerging brave new world and to offer the opportunity for the younger generations to get out and express themselves.
“The local Skipton Parish C of E Primary School Year 6 are also seizing the moment to escape from their classroom and will watch the performance; it promises to be a wonderful afternoon of midsummer madness...”
The performance will be staged on Wednesday May 26 at 1pm and 3pm at Holy Trinity.
The show is free, and if you are attending it is recommended you bring a picnic blanket to sit on.
