In the lead up to Pentecost, Wortley and Farnley have been focusing on the theme of prayer with a series of live-streamed conversations.
Since Easter the inner city parish have preached through the Lord’s Prayer on Sundays, and used the Prayer Course from 24/7 Prayer as their mid-week material.
To join in with Thy Kingdom Come, Wortley and Farnley are also hosting live conversations on their Facebook and YouTube channels. The Revd Chris Balding, curate at the inner city parish in Leeds, is interviewing a series of different people on their experiences and styles of prayer, whilst taking questions and thoughts from the comments on the live stream.
The first Conversation took place on Monday, May 17 with Ian Adams, co-chaplain at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. Adam talked about how he uses running to help him pray, how jazz and prayer come together, what prayer is like when going through tough times and any top tips he has.
“It was really great to tap into and draw on Ian’s incredibly varied styles of prayer,” said Revd Chris Balding.
“Learning from how he uses his body to pray while running and art to help focus his mind has added to my understanding of prayer. His top tips for prayer were also fantastic nuggets of gold.
“Being able to host this online as well meant that it was really easy for him to join us from Cambridge and for others to access the conversation whenever they are able."
