Ossett church comes second in local May procession

An Ossett church came second in the local community annual May Procession on Saturday with its Creation float.

It was all hands to the pumps on Saturday morning as churchgoers and members of the local community started at 7.30am to get their float ready for the 143rd Gawthorpe May procession.

The Trinity, Ossett float with its green Creation theme sported children and adults dressed and face-painted as animals. They came second to the Soroptimists which, as the vicar, the Revd Clive Hicks, explained, wasn’t too bad as the president of the group is their own PCC secretary and another church member was also involved!

The Gawthorpe May Queen and May Procession is an important date in the community calendar after the internationally renowned Coal Carrying competition in early April. The vicar, Clive said they were both big opportunities for the church and community to get alongside each other and have fun and there was always  great turn out and support from church.
