In October, Gen Verde, a group of 21 female musicians and performing artists from 13 different countries, will be leading a workshop for young people and performing a concert in Ripon.
The band’s inspiring work promotes peace and dialogue and they work with young people to share skills and prepare them to perform in concert alongside Gen Verde members. The workshops, which are offered to young people of all abilities and backgrounds, promote a culture of solidarity in which each person is valued. The group’s internationality results in a unique musical production expressing the sounds and dynamics of different cultures.
As part of their UK tour, ‘Start Now’, Gen Verde will be visiting Ripon for a day of workshops and dialogue for young people on Wednesday 28 October , 10am-6pm at Holy Trinity Church, and a lunchtime concert on Thursday 29 October at 1.15pm in Ripon Cathedral.
The workshops include music, singing, percussion, dance and drama. There will be a number of workshops run at the same time for young people in year 6 and young people of secondary school age. Bishops James and Jonathan will also be there to take part in dialogue with the young people of the area, setting them challenges and being prepared to be challenged in return.
The feedback from previous Gen Verde workshops is that there’s always a dynamic outburst of joy, optimism and hope.

Background
During a visit to the holy land in 2013 for an international gathering of young people, working with young Jewish people, Muslims and Christians, it became very clear to Gen Verde that in the arts, a mutual appreciation of each other's talents is an excellent way of communicating and entering into dialogue, which in turn helps in breaking down barriers.
