Appropriately, there was a ‘rushing mighty wind’ in Cross Green for an ecumenical walk of witness on Pentecost Sunday.
It was part of a Pentecost Pageant Weekend organised by Father Darren Percival, Interim Parish Priest for St Hilda’s and St Saviour’s. He said, “I wanted to bring all the Christians in Cross Green and Richmond Hill together to walk in solidarity proclaiming the one gospel of Jesus Christ to the community of which we serve”.
Bishop Paul Slater joined the walk, which included a pause for prayers and readings at Newbourne Methodist Church and St Saviour’s, before finishing at St Hilda’s where Bishop Paul led an ecumenical Songs of Praise.
At Newbourne it became a wider proclamation of Christian unity as the Ghanaian International Deliverance Church, which uses the Methodist Church on a Sunday afternoon, invited everyone to join in part of their service.
On Saturday they had a day of stalls, many run by young entrepreneurs. Father Darren said: “Pentecost is about the church turning itself 
inside and out I thought was an ideal opportunity to think anew and let folk see their business potential within a community that sometimes the rest of the world has written off.
"We had kids selling pencil tops made from Loom bands and a young lady doing Henna. They made a bit of money and it gave them the sense that with the right platform the only limitation is your own imagination”.
The event came at the end of Pentecost week as the parish’s response to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Thy Kingdom Come wave of prayer.
