Over 50 pilgrims from all over the diocese took part in a pilgrimage for climate action on Saturday.
They walked from the four corners of Leeds into the centre to join others for a service at the Minster, where they heard about the global impact of climate change and prayed for the COP21 international climate change talks.
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said “Bishop Paul gave a compelling call to take personal action to cut our carbon consumption for the love of our global brothers and sisters.”
Many of the pilgrims then joined the city’s People’s Climate March, demonstrating for climate justice (one of 3000 marches being held globally) which was covered by BBC Look North. The day of action concluded with local speakers addressing the marchers.
Jemima Parker adds, “It's really encouraging to have so many people come from all over the diocese who understand how significant climate change is and how urgently we need to pray for our leaders in taking preventative action.
“Partnering with local group environmental and community groups has been a valuable way for the church to speak of the hope of the gospel in the challenging issues we all face with climate change.”
