Wakefield Cathedral’s Pop Up Cathedral took faith on the road today as it delivered over £1k worth of foodstuff to three separate food banks across the city.
The foodstuff was all donated to the Cathedral as part of its Giving Campaign for Lent – 
launched on the Cathedral steps on Pancake Day - to help alleviate food poverty across the Wakefield District.
A shopping trolley is now inside the Cathedral collecting donations throughout Lent – just last week pupils from St John’s church school dropped off six bags of shopping and people just keep giving.
And today, the Sub dean, Canon Tony Macpherson, verger, Kevin Simpson and Community Learning Manager, Tracey Yates and Heritage Learning officer, Gillian Bunn, loaded up the mobile mini cathedral and set off to St George’s, Lupset where volunteers were busy packing up food parcels for its food bank, pictured below left, which opens every Tuesday afternoon - last Tuesday St George’s gave food out parcels to 40 adults and 19 children.
Wakefield Cathedral launched its Giving Campaign to coincide with Pancake Day and the season of Lent, and asked that local people, schools, churches and local businesses join in and bring donations of food that will be distributed round some of the city’s local foodbanks. So far they have donated food to the Wakefield Rent Deposit Scheme in the centre of the city, St Catherine's Church Centre on Doncaster Road, and St George’s in Lupset.
