Priest 'honoured' to lead special wedding service for cancer patient

One of the priests in our diocese was “honoured” to conduct a wedding service for a cancer patient and his partner in their own home.
The Revd Tracey Raistrick, interim priest-in-charge at St John's Church, Ingrow conducted the ceremony after Terry Golding, who has terminal esophageal cancer, was unable to marry his partner Samantha at Keighley Register Office due to restrictions because of Covid-19.
A special marriage licence was applied for and obtained from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The ceremony was performed in front of the couple’s children, with family members and close friends watching proceedings via Skype.
"It was amazing that even though we are in lockdown it was actually possible to get married," said Samantha.
"The service by the Reverend was brilliant – it was very emotional and everyone had a tear in their eye."
Revd Tracey said it was "a real honour" to lead the service.
"It was very special for Sam and Terry and a genuinely profound moment," she said.
