Promoting peace in Leeds

This week, which has been designated as Interfaith Week, two Anglican churches in Leeds joined forces with a synaogue to put on an event together designed to promote peace.

Parish churches St Martin’s (Potternewton) and St Matthew’s (Chapel Allerton) together with Beth Hamidrash Hagadol Synagogue on Street Lane brought the Invest in Peace initiative to Leeds.

About 100 people came to St Matthew’s Schol Hall to listen to the moving, provocative and inspiring witness of Bassam Aramin and Robi Damelin, two Palestinian and Israeli bereaved parents.

The event – that will be repeated in Manchester and Glasgow - was chaired by Laurence Saffer, President of the Leeds Jewish Representative Council.

Money raised at the event will be donated to the Parents Circle-Families Forum, a joint Palestinian-Israeli peace building organisation of over 600 families who have lost a close family member in the on-going conflict.

Invest in Peace is a partnership between the Board of Deputies of British Jews and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland.
