St James the Great in Pudsey is the only location in Yorkshire to be selected as a venue to stage a new play, “The Devil’s Passion” - or “Easter in Hell”, described as a ‘divine comedy’.
The play tells the story of Jesus’ last week before his death. Written and performed by award-winning playwright Justin Butcher, critics have called it: ‘riveting’, ‘witty’, ‘startlingly original’ and actor David Suchet said, “It was one of the most remarkable evenings I have spent in the theatre.”
The performance is for one night only on 31 March, 7.30 pm and lasts 90 minutes.
Churchwarden Sally Firth (who’s organised the event) said, "The congregation are delighted that St James the Great has been included in this UK Tour, when all the rest are in the south of England. It's clearly a play not to be missed."
The Devil’s Passion is a production of the Passion Pit Theatre company and is directed by Olivier-Award winner Guy Masterson (“Morecambe”, “Twelve Angry Men”, “Animal Farm”), with a haunting new soundscape by Jack C. Arnold (“War And Peace”, “The Woman In Black”).
