Community meals to mark the end of daily Ramadan fasts are taking place across our diocese and being widely supported by our clergy.
Iftars, where guests included MPs, council leaders, police and other faith groups, were held in Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds over the weekend.
One of the largest so far was the Big Iftar at the Masjid Ghausia mosque in Huddersfield on Saturday evening, attended by the Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs.
He was one of a large number of guests, including the Leader of Kirklees Council, Cllr Shabir Pandor, as well as several other Councillors and officials from Kirklees and the Community Policing Team.
Bishop Jonathan said, “I was honoured to be able to give an address to those attending the Iftar, and to bring greetings on behalf of the Church in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“The people of the Masjid Ghausia mosque are doing great work among the community of Lockwood in Huddersfield, especially among young people, as well as supporting refugee work in this country and overseas.
“We affirmed our commitment to the cause of peace and to working together for the good of all.”
“This was a great occasion for encouraging mutual understanding, with representatives from numerous churches and community organisations, as well as officers from Kirklees Neighbourhood Policing, who found the whole event very helpful and informative. 
“As faith and community leaders we committed ourselves to building on this wonderful evening to take forward our working together across Huddersfield and Kirklees.”
He added: “At this time of uncertainty and anxiety in this country and across the world, it is essential that we should take very opportunity to build bridges and to strengthen relationship across our communities. We have so much in common – and especially our commitment to peace and the welfare of all. It was a joy to take part in this wonderful evening.”
