Recital for 150th birthday of unique organ marks first music event for new Crofton Vicar

The new Vicar of Crofton and Warmfield will experience her first music event since taking up her post as the former Organist of Wakefield Cathedral will perform at St Peter’s, Kirkthorpe, next week to celebrate the 150th birthday of the church’s Denman Organ – one of only two in the country!

Denman organRevd Louise says, “The organ recital is going to be a great night for a number of reasons. Firstly Jonathan [Bielby] is a renowned musician and composer and it’s a treat to have him come to our church.

“I know he’s looking forward to playing for us especially given that the organ in our church is one of only two Denman Organs left working in the country!

“It is a beautiful instrument and it’ll be a pleasure to hear Jonathan play it in the surroundings of our fantastic medieval church.”Jonathan Bielby

Jonathan Bielby is a widely recognised performer, choral conductor and composer of church and organ music and held the role of Organist and Director of Music at Wakefield Cathedral for 40 years until his retirement in 2013.

The recital will take place on Saturday 16th January to help the congregation of St Peter’s celebrate the birthday of this unique instrument, which was built in 1866, so it ‘should be an interesting and enjoyable evening for all’.

Revd Louise says, “I think it’s great to hold events such as these as it attracts new people into our ancient building.

“St Peter’s has something of a reputation locally for musical events and this is something I want to see continue in the future.”

Revd Louise TinniswoodRevd Louise Tinniswood, a stand-up comedian, took her position as Vicar of Crofton and Warmfield in October, but this will be the first music event she has attended in her new role.

Revd Louise says, “So far I’ve found the people of both parishes welcoming and although it’s been a very busy time I’ve started to find my feet a bit now.

“I started just after Harvest so it felt like Christmas was upon us pretty soon after that.”

Revd Louise adds, “I am loving meeting lots of people and have begun to make connections around both parishes.

“I’m excited about the future of both parishes too - there’s so much going on in both churches and it’s been great to see the teams in both congregations making events and services happen and run smoothly.”

Revd Louise says, “This is my first post after curacy and I’m looking forward to the challenges being the Vicar of Crofton and Warmfield will bring.

“I am originally from the North East but lived in Sheffield for 13 years whilst teaching at an FE college.

“I did my theological training at St John’s in Nottingham and for my curacy I spent three years in Finningley and Auckley on the edge of Doncaster.”

She adds, “In our spare time Paul, my husband, and I enjoy travelling and we have recently been to Scandinavia.

“My main passion outside work is stand-up comedy, both watching and performing it, and last year I performed at the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time.”

‘An Evening with Jonathan Bielby’ will take place at 7:30pm (doors open at 7pm) on Saturday 16th January at St Peter’s Church, Kirkthorpe. Tickets cost £10 (which includes a glass of wine) and can be bought on the door or by calling 01924 891570 or 07544724932.
