Former head of Wakefield Girls High School has taken on a new role – to head up the relaunched Friends of Wakefield Cathedral.
Pat Langham, CBE, has agreed to take on the renewed Friends – an initiative to bring as many people from the city and beyond together to support the work, the life and the fabric of this iconic Grade 1 listed building and safeguard its future.
Mrs Langham said: “I have been to so many events at the Cathedral over the years and have a huge affection and respect for the place. I am honoured to chair the renewed Friends and look forward to working with the community to make this organisation fun and fruitful and to help this great building continue to flourish.”
The Friends are looking for new members and are working on an exciting programme of social events from theatre visits to sightseeing and shopping trips as well as lunch and dinner dates.
They have also teamed up with shops and businesses through the town to offer a wide range of promotions and incentives for members. And there are discounts available for hiring the Cathedral or the Crypt for events.
And on Wednesday (25th Jan) there is a “Meet and Greet” with members of the Friends committee at 11.15am where you can come and meet some volunteers and find out more about the Friends whilst enjoying a free tea/coffee and a scone.
Friends Member secretary Mrs Elizabeth Jenkins said: “We hope that The Friends will engage local businesses and the local people of Wakefield with each other to unite our Yorkshire spirit and do our bit to breathe new life into our amazing city.
“We are always open to new suggestions of events or visits…so come and join and become a new member of Friends’ at Wakefield Cathedral and have your say,” she added.
