Remarkable stories of reconciliation

As part of Interfaith Week (12-16 November), come and hear the remarkable stories of reconciliation from two parents who have lost children on both sides of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

On 14 November, this joint Christian and Jewish event is being held to help promote bridge building between the two communities

Vicar of St Martin’s, the Revd Dr Nicholas lo Polito, says, “On 14 November all are invited to come hear the incredible stories of two bereaved parents who promote reconciliation as an alternative to revenge.

“This is a joint venture between St Matthew's Chapel Allerton, St Martin’s Potternewton and Beth Hamidrash Hagadol Synagogue. The main aims are to promote the building of bridges between Jewish and Christian communities through engagement with Israeli-Palestinian peace building initiatives and to raise money to support Israeli-Palestinian peace building”.

In March 2002, Robi Damelin’s son, David, was shot by a Palestinian sniper, he was 28 years old. In January 2007, Bassam Aramin's 10-year-old daughter, Abir, was shot by an Israeli soldier. As a result of their experiences, Robi and Bassam joined The Parents Circle – Families Forum, which is renowned for its work to promote peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Hear them speak to an interfaith audience in North Leeds on Tuesday 14 November (7pm refreshments, 7:30pm speakers and discussion).

The location will be emailed to registered attendees a few days before the event.
