Return home and an honorary role for Wendy Wilby

Canon Wendy WilbyA former Harrogate Vicar who left the diocese in 2001, has been made an Honorary Minor Canon of Ripon Cathedral -  where she has been providing additional ministry assistance since her retirement.

Canon Wendy Wilby was installed as an Honorary Minor Canon at the weekend having returned to Ripon from Bristol Cathedral where she served as the Precentor and as the Dean of Women's Ministry.

Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson (pictured right), said, “Canon Wendy Wilby has made a significant contribution to the life of Ripon Cathedral in recent months by serving as a residentiary canon during a vacancy. She has helped to support the worship and music, developed a pastoral care policy and helped to establish a system of Daily Chaplains.

“I am delighted that, while continuing as a canon emeritus of Bristol Cathedral, she has agreed to become a honorary minor canon of Ripon. This affirms her continuing support of ministry within the Cathedral’s community, including coordinating the Daily Chaplains.”

Canon Wendy said, “I really can say that I feel at home in Ripon Cathedral. I was ordained Deacon here in 1990 and Priest in 1994, which of course was a special year for women throughout the CofE. After many years of ministering in different dioceses, I find myself  retired and back in Yorkshire, so I couldn’t be more delighted to have been installed as an Honorary Minor Canon in a Cathedral that I love. It is good to be joining the Dean, Chapter and Cathedral community in its new strategy ‘Growing the Kingdom’ and I look forward to contributing in any way I can, whilst also putting my feet up a little and enjoying my windmill garden!”
