Revd Ruth Hind to become Ripon Cathedral’s first Canon Evangelist

Ruth Hind and John DobsonThe Revd Ruth Hind (pictured left) has been announced as Ripon Cathedral's Canon Evangelist. She will take up her post early in the summer. She joins a team led by the Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson (pictured right) and residentiary canons, Canon Paul Greenwell, the Cathedral Precentor, and Canon Elizabeth Sewell, the Canon Educator, along with interim residentiary Canon Wendy Wilby.

Ruth, 43, has two daughters and is currently Rector of the parishes of Kirklington, Burneston, Wath and Pickhill and Assistant Area Dean of the Wensleydale Deanery. She sits on General Synod and has a special interest in Reader and Lay ministry.

Dean John Dobson said, "I am delighted that Ruth has accepted the offer of the post of Canon Evangelist here at Ripon Cathedral at an exciting time when we are developing plans for the future." He added, "There is a real desire for the Cathedral’s local congregations to grow both spiritually and numerically and Ruth brings a wealth of experience and gifts that will support this. She will also lead our pastoral care teams, freeing Canon Elizabeth Sewell to develop our outreach to the rural communities in addition to her work as Canon Educator. We very much look forward to Ruth being part of our community.”

Ruth herself said she was looking forward to coming to the Cathedral. “I am delighted to have this opportunity to join the team at this exciting time for both Cathedral and Diocese. I am looking forward to working with the Dean and Chapter.  Although the Cathedral will be a wonderful place to work, I imagine I will be spending a great deal of time in Ripon itself, getting to know the people.”

The installation of Ruth Hind as Canon Evangelist will take place in late June.
