Ripon Cathedral has announced that Canon Ailsa Newby has been appointed as its new Canon Pastor.
Canon Newby, who is currently serving as Priest-in-charge in the Parish of Putney, said, “I am excited at the prospect of joining the community at Ripon Cathedral. I shall relish the chance to build on its 1300 years’ tradition of Christian worship as it faces the challenges and opportunities of communicating the Christian faith in the 21st century. As a family with roots in Yorkshire we are particularly looking forward to basing ourselves in God’s Own Country!”
As well as her experience of working at a parish level, Ailsa is also an Honorary Canon at Southwark Cathedral and works as part of the Ministry Team in the Parish of Putney.
The Dean of Ripon, Very Revd John Dobson, said, “We all look forward to giving Ailsa and her husband Richard a very warm welcome to Ripon Cathedral and the Diocese of Leeds. This is a crucially important role in the life of the Cathedral and city. Ailsa will be helping to lead our efforts to grow the Cathedral congregation numerically and spiritually, as well as overseeing our ministry of pastoral care. ”
Her installation will take place on Sunday 25th June 2017 at 3.30pm at Ripon Cathedral. Members of the community are encouraged to put the date in their diaries.
