A church in the Ripon area has used this Season of Creation to begin its thinking on how to achieve the Church of England’s target of carbon net zero by 2030.
St Mary’s Embsay with Eastby has held various events this September to help care for the environment, including a Zoom discussion on being ‘Willing to change our ways’ and a Fairtrade stall.
The church has also begun planning for the future, by beginning practical planning for making the church carbon net zero by 2030, as well as looking at the next steps they need to take to achieve a Silver Eco Church Award.
Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: "The team at St Mary's are to be commended for looking holistically at the way in which they can care for God's creation.
“While it can be hard for churches to focus beyond the COVID situation at the moment, engaging with our mission to tackle climate injustice and protect nature is not only vital, but can give fresh purpose in these difficult times."
