At a special service in Darrington the Revd John Fisher, assistant curate at Darton and Staincross, dedicated a scout flag to be used as the official flag of the local Thane Rover Crew.
Traditionally flags are blessed for scout crews to be used during parades and events that the crew attends. At this particular dedication service, Father John Fisher was personally asked to lead the service because of his previous experience with the scouts, previously volunteering as a scout leader for twenty years. In attendance was a special guest from Australia, Michael Baden-Powel (pictured left), who is the grandson of Robert Baden-Powel, the famous army officer who founded the boy scouts and girl guides movements. Scout members and leaders from accross the country also turned out to a well attended event. 
The service included a Bible reading and finished with the dedication of the flag that was presented to Michael Baden-Powel. Father John Fisher said, "I have received so many positive comments worldwide about the event and the event organiser Colin Walk sent me a wonderful letter thanking me for the way I presided over this special service."
"It was an event where I had to dig deep to make it both meaningful to Scouters worldwide and to the many Christians present at the service," explained Father John.
