Selling arts and crafts to help homeless in Huddersfield

A unique arts and crafts sale to help the homeless and those in crisis in Huddersfield opens its doors tomorrow for one day only. (Tues 7)

The Donate Art (Dart) project is a fundraising scheme supported by the Huddersfield Deanery of which all the proceeds go to supporting The Huddersfield Mission Evening Café.

It takes place in the University Business School from 10 -7pm and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Mission café.

Dart was the brainchild of one of the Deanery’s lay representative’s, Alison Lobb, and was started as a way of doing something different to raise funds for the Evening Cafe at the Lord Street Methodist Mission in Huddersfield.

The Cafe itself is a well-used resource by the homeless and vulnerable in central Huddersfield with around 50 to 60 people every weekday night from November to the end of March.

It provides them with a nutritious meal, a warm place to be on the coldest time of the year, someone to talk to, entertainment and activities.

Its main fundraiser is the Dart event but there are other smaller events during the year all of which help to fund the Evening Cafe.

Over the years the Donate Art project has brought involved members of the public, given University art students experience of exhibiting their work, and seen the Cafe clientele creating works of art for sale.

If anyone would like to find out more or donate any art or craft then please contact us a donateart.dart@gmail.com
