For the seventh year, Churches together in Settle held a Passion Play on Good Friday, each one excelling the previous year.
Four scenes were staged around the town:
The Last Supper in St John's Methodist Church Hall.
Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Millennium Garden.
The trial of Jesus in the Market Place and finally the death of Jesus on Townhead Field, opposite the Parish Church.
From start to finish the play was very moving.
As with the final hours of Jesus, a large crowd accompanied the cast of disciples, Jesus, priests and Roman militaries as they moved from location to location.
Judith Allinson, web-editor for Churches Together in Settle said,
"In seeing the suffering and agony of Jesus I was reminded of the people caught up today, this very day, in war and slaughter in Syria, and other countries in the Middle East, and North Africa"
Videos of the Passion Play can be seen from the Churches Together in Settle and District website.
Jesus was played by 17 year old Benedict Willacy, who is much nearer to Jesus' age than most of the rest of the cast. He gave a very mature performance, one that was emotional and heartfelt. Benedict is studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry at Giggleswick School and hopes to go on to study Physics at University.
The other actors came from at least seven different churches in Settle and District.
Wendy Holt of Rathmell directed the play and John Diggles provided the sound system.
