Sing with the choristers!

Children aged six to eleven will have the opportunity to sing with a cathedral choir during a service of worship if they come to the Choir Open Day taking place on Sunday May 22 at Ripon Cathedral.

Girls and boys will be able to spend a fun afternoon rehearsing and singing with the Choir as well as being given a guided tour with the chance to see behind the scenes at the Cathedral.

There’s something for Mums and Dads too. While their children are busy rehearsing with the cathedral musicians, parents and guardians  can enjoy refreshments and view presentations about the cathedral and choir. The afternoon will culminate with an open rehearsal for all to attend, followed by the service of Evensong sung jointly by the children and the Cathedral Choir.

The Director of Music of Ripon Cathedral, Andrew Bryden said, “This is a great opportunity for girls and boys to have the experience of singing with highly trained musicians in an ancient and beautiful building, to meet the choristers, take part in activities, and most importantly have lots of fun! There will also be a free goody bag for all the children who participate.“

The Cathedral Choir has a growing reputation for musical excellence, and regularly appears on radio and television including BBC Breakfast, The One Show and broadcasts live on BBC Radio 3. Girls and boys who sing in the Cathedral Choir attend a variety of schools in Ripon and the local area. The musical training they receive is free and includes singing lessons.

The Choir Open Day is on Sunday 22nd May from 1.00pm to 4.30pm, and those wishing to attend and participate need to register in advance by calling Ripon Cathedral Music Department on 01765 603496, or email choiropenday@riponcathedral.org.uk
