Sir Philip Mawer to deliver next ELS Northern Province Lecture in Leeds on 11 October
Following the recent sell-out lecture by the Diocesan Chancellor, the next Ecclesiastical Law Society Northern Province Lecture will take place at the diocesan offices, Church House, York Place in Leeds on Thursday 11 October at 5.30 pm.
The speaker is Sir Philip Mawer, lately the Independent Reviewer under the Declaration on the Ministry of Bishops and Priests (Resolution of Disputes Procedure) Regulations 2014. He will speak about his role as independent reviewer, charged with making the concept of “mutual flourishing” a lived reality across the broad spectrum of the Church of England. He will address the operation of the Five Guiding Principles, drawing on the various reports he delivered, including that concerning the nomination of Bishop Philip North to the See of Sheffield.
Sir Philip Mawer was a former Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards who was in the post from 2002 until 2008 when he became an independent advisor on Ministerial standards to Gordon Brown. He was previously Secretary General of the General Synod of the Church of England.
The Northern Province Lectures are open to members and non-members of the Ecclesiastical Law Society and are free of charge. Prior booking is required using the Society’s website. Refreshments will be provided.
